Rutland Regional Medical Center receives Governor’s Excellence in Worksite Wellness Award

RUTLAND–The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has awarded Rutland Regional Medical Center’s Worksite Wellness Committee the 2015 Governor’s Excellence in Worksite Wellness award. The award recognizes Vermont employers who have made programs and initiatives that encourage staff to make healthy choices a priority.

Rutland Regional’s Wellness Committee is a cross-disciplinary team that plans and implements initiatives designed to encourage health and wellbeing by promoting education and activities that support positive lifestyle changes. The Wellness Committee offers a variety of fitness and healthy eating challenges per year, annual flu vaccines, on-site biometric screenings and coaching and a number of exercise classes at a discount to employees. A highly successful couch-to-5k training series was offered in conjunction with the committee, culminating in the launch of Rutland Regional’s inaugural 5k run, Get Fit Rutland.

“Healthy lifestyles and fitness are essential components of a strong workforce,” said Tom Huebner, president and CEO of Rutland Regional Medical Center. “I am very proud of the creative and smart ways our Worksite Wellness teams have implemented a variety of initiatives that address all aspects of health.”

The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports will present the award at the 2016 Worksite Wellness conference in Burlington on March 30.
