Hibernation vacation commences at Killington Elementary School

KILLINGTON —  Killington Elementary School is participating in the “Green School Energy Challenge,” sponsored by the Vermont Energy Education Program (VEEP).

“We plan challenges for our school throughout the year, in order to achieve our goal of reducing our energy usage,” wrote KES students and green team members Alex Rice, Austin Clarke, Lilly Kowalczyk, and Evan Joaquin in the school newsletter. “Our Green Team has decided to plan a ‘Hibernation Vacation’ during February break where we turn off and unplug all electronics in the building, such as computers, Smartboards, printers, and projectors. We are doing this because it will save energy and money, because these devices use a lot of electricity, even when they are turned off! You can do this at your own home, too, by using surge protectors and making sure everything is really turned completely off. You will save energy and money!”
