Skiers and riders in Vermont during the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend rejoiced when they woke up to over 7” of light fluffy snow Monday morning, Jan. 18. “Powder Day!” Killington Resort exclaimed on its daily conditions report. With Bear Mountain recently opened for the weekend, the resort offered 88 trails and 399 acres of skiing and riding, and said it was “expanding terrain at every turn” and was “on pace to more than double open terrain this week.”
Killington plans to continue making snow to augment the natural stuff in order to open Skyeship Base and Sunrise Village.
It was a “powder day” at Okemo, too with 80 trails open and expansion planned with snowguns blasting on Tuckered Out, Black Out, Upper Chief, Upper Tomahawk, Fairway and Lower Mountain Road.
The colder temperatures and, likely, pent up demand brought many skiers and riders to the Vermont slopes for the MLK holiday filling area restaurants, bars and shops.
