Killington’s future economic development goals to be set at VCRD’s Community Visit, Tuesday, Jan. 26

KILLINGTON—Residents of Killington will engage in the process of strategic planning for the future of their town once again. The town’s commission guiding economic development and tourism will hold a town meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, and has invited the Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) to facilitate. The meeting is a followup to the VCRD’s Community Visit program that was launched in January 2008 and served as the impetus to establish the town’s strategic plan.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will take place in the Killington Elementary School gymnasium. It is open to the public and all residents are encouraged to attend. The meeting agenda includes an overview of the first Community Visit in 2008, the priorities that were set at that time, and an update on action, accomplishments and progress achieved during the last eight years.

Interim Town Manager Richard Horner will review potential major projects facing the town, and residents will participate in the setting of priorities.

In January 2008, a community group composed of business leaders, local government and residents worked with the VCRD to initiate the first Community Visit. During that first meeting more than 250 Killington residents reflected on the many assets of the community and articulated a vision for the town, which formed the basis for the 2008 Killington community action plan.
