It was a big week in sports for College of St. Joseph. The men’s and women’s basketball team played three games each and had great success. The Lady Saints went a perfect 3-0, winning each game by at least 22 points. The men’s team also played well this week, but suffered a tough loss to a well coached Fisher College team.
The women’s team has an overall record of 13-1 and a perfect 7-0 conference record. They have officially moved up to the No. 1 ranking in the USCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Polls. The men’s team is 11-6 overall and 6-1 in the YSCC conference. Here is a closer look at all the games played this week.
Jan. 13
The men’s team started off the week losing to Fisher College. The Fighting Saints could not find a way to stop the Fisher Falcons potent offense and that led to a final score of 62-94. Antonio Gordon was one of the few bright spots for the Saints throughout the game. He was a force on the offensive side of the ball, ending up with a game high 27 points on 8 for 19 shooting from the field.
Jan. 14
The women’s team won 81-59 against NCAA Division III Pine Manor College. Regina Steele played one of her best games of the season to ensure the victory for the Lady Saints, finishing with 26 points, 23 rebounds, six assists, five blocks, and three steals.
Jan. 16
The Lady Saints crushed Great Bay CC with a final score of 112-33. Mookie Kennedy led the game in scoring, ending up with 30 points to go along with nine steals and five rebounds.
The men’s team followed suit, winning with relative ease against Great Bay CC 81-66. Kyle Houston played a well-rounded game, filling up the stat sheet and playing hard to help get the victory. He had a team high 17 points and also added six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Jan. 17
Regina Steele once again led the Lady Saints to victory against Central Maine CC. CSJ was in control the entire game, winning 80-36. Steele had 30 points, 10 boards, five blocks, and four steals. CSJ finished the game with 13 total blocks.
The men made it look easy, finishing off Central Maine CC with a dominating performance that ended in a 94-68 win. The Saints played a great team game, sharing the ball and ending up with four different players scoring double figures. Joshua McAfee led the Saints with a team high 18 points, including three made shots from downtown.
