Voluntary pay cut money donated to local organizations

State Representative Job Tate has chosen to take a voluntary paycut of 7.5 percent and donate it  locally.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the beginning of the new legislative session, Job Tate, state representative for Chittenden, Mendon, Killington and Bridgewater, made a statement by giving away a portion of his paycheck to the Sherburne Memorial Library in Killington — a donation he plans to make weekly to a local entity.

“Lisa and I feel strongly that we should voluntarily take the pay cut,” Tate said in an email to his constituents. “But rather than return the money to the general fund we thought your tax dollars would be more beneficial being donated to local entities. This year, our first weekly donation of $52.03 will be to the Sherburne Memorial Library.”

Last session Tate tried to put an amendment into the budget that would have cut legislative pay by 7.5 percent. It failed. Tate is seeking input from residents on which organizations or projects “we could throw a little pay cut money at.”
