CSJ weekly athletics roundup

It was an exciting week in sports for CSJ, with eight games being played overall by the men and women’s basketball teams. It was also a successful week, as the women’s team was able to go a perfect 3-0 and the men’s team went 2-1. Both teams now lead the YSCC and are not showing any signs of relinquishing the top seed. The men’s team has an 8-3 overall record and a 4-0 conference record. The women’s team has a 6-1 overall record and a 4-0 conference record.

Dec. 9

The Lady Saints put on a strong performance against NHTI, winning the game 91-52. It was an all around effort from every player on the team, with four different players scoring in double digits. CSJ was led by Regina Steele, who was able to score a game high 23 points and take down 14 rebounds. Mookie Kennedy was also a huge asset for the Lady Saints, scoring 22 points, 12 of which came courtesy of the long ball. She also grabbed seven boards and had four assists to go along with three steals.

The men’s team concluded the night, defeating conference rival NHTI on a game-winning shot with three seconds left on the clock. The play was set up by Travis Threewitts, who was able to find Antonio Gordon on the baseline. Gordon received the ball and took two power dribbles in order to finish a beautiful reverse layup on the other end of the hoop for the go ahead basket. The Fighting Saints won the game 92-90 in what was a huge conference match-up.

Dec. 12

The Lady Saints defeated a tough Central Maine CC team with a final score of 55-48. Arreonte Anderson had one of her biggest and most important games of the season. She led CSJ to victory, accumulating a game high 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Regina Steele was a force down low, controlling the paint all game long. She ended the game with 10 points, 17 boards, and three blocks.

The men were unable to secure a victory on Saturday, losing to Fisher with a final score of 81-89. The Saints were out-rebounded and could not control the pace of the game like they have the majority of the season. Antonio Gordon led the Saints off the bench with 16 points, but it was not enough to beat a tough Fisher club team.

Dec. 13

The women’s team beat Great Bay CC in a dominating performance that ended with a final score of 68-21. The men followed with a victory of their own, defeating Great Bay in a much closer match-up, with a final score of 92-87.
