Vermont Adaptive raises $58,000+ during national #GivingTuesday

Anonymous family offers $20,000 additional match

KILLINGTON—On Wednesday, Dec. 2, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports announced that it had raised more than $58,000 during the national #GivingTuesday campaign. The total includes a $20,000 matching donation from an anonymous Vermont Adaptive participant family.

“It’s a bit overwhelming but this incredible effort shows that people really do pay attention to the season of giving and what it really means,” said Erin Fernandez, executive director. “Monies raised will allow us to reach more people with our programs, regardless of their ability to pay, fund and keep current our fleet of expensive adaptive equipment, and continue to broaden our programming options with not just traditional outdoor sports and recreation, but also with our wellness and environmental programming. I can’t thank everyone enough for their incredible support and enthusiasm during this #GivingTuesday.”

Vermont Adaptive volunteers also turned out at all winter program locations on Tuesday to help with office and equipment maintenance and preparation for the winter ski and snowboard season. Volunteers built picnic tables, painted bathrooms, performed equipment maintenance, and completed other tasks.

For the fourth year in a row, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (December 1 this year) is a global day dedicated to giving back. #GivingTuesday follows Black Friday and CyberMonday with the goal of celebrating generosity and encouraging people to give during the holiday season, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping. #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support, and help create a better world.

Vermont Adaptive must raise approximately $140,000 annually from individual donations to sustain its operating and program budget. Other funds come from grants, foundations, partners, and sponsors. The goal is to raise at least $100,000 by the end of the year collectively, from this #GivingTuesday effort as well as end-of-year-fundraising.
