Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. — SOUTH POMFRET — Two Upper Valley arts presenters, BarnArts and ArtisTree, are collaborating on Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of Cabaret to be held at ArtisTree in South Pomfret. This is a Wassail Weekend 2015 event.
ArtisTree’s Mark van Gulden, music director, celebrates “The Great American Songbook” along with seasonal favorites. Master of Ceremonies Al Allessi, will lead this musical journey through the world of old style classic cabaret. The singers Bis Allessi, Jarvis Green and Jenni Johnson will be supported by South Pomfret’s own Bob Merrill on piano and Glendon Ingalls of Mendon on bass. Merrill will also sing a few of his own standards to help set the mood for this special evening. Jarvis Green is BarnArts founder and ArtisTree’s Theater director and his joining in this musical collaboration enhances the spirit of an evening with old friends.
Cabaret traditionally evokes a discreetly dark, romantic setting where music and other kinds of entertainment are performed over the course of an evening.
Says Ted Williamson of Barnard, a fan of cabaret: “The first time I saw cabaret was in Vietnam, and then again in an underground night club in Iran. People sit around tables and have a drink or two while listening to the music.”
ArtisTree is located at 2095 Pomfret Road in South Pomfret. The $20 admission includes a dessert bar. A cash bar is available. Tickets can be purchased online through www.artistree.org or www.barnarts.org. For more info, contact info@barnarts.org or 802-234-1645.
