Four Castleton ensembles come together for two weeks of concerts
Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. — CASTLETON — The Castleton Music Department presents the Castleton Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, University Chorale and Chamber Singers, and Wind Ensemble in three evenings of music beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the Casella Theater.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m., the Castleton Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo, led by Rob Roth, present an eclectic mix of jazz standards, pop covers, and fusion pieces. Past performances have also featured a number of surprise guests including the Green Mountain Show Band, the big band ensemble of Vermont’s 40th Army Band.
Friday, Dec. 4 features theCastleton University Chorale and Chamber Singers, directed by Sherrill Blodget, who will present their winter concert featuring music from a variety of contemporary composers including “It Takes a Village” by Joan Szymko, “Alleluia” by Paul Basler, and “Remembrances of Love” by James McCray at 7 p.m. Accompanying instruments will include conga drums, horn, and harp.
Ensemble Week concludes Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. as the Castleton Wind Ensemble presents “An Asian Celebration,” featuring works by composers Yagisawa, Boo, Chance, Chavez, Saucedo, and Brown. The wind ensemble will perform music that honors the wonderful contributions of Asian culture to wind band repertoire.
All concerts will be held at the Casella Theater in the Castleton Fine Arts Center.
Tickets for these performances are $10 for adults and $5 for Castleton faculty, staff and alumni, seniors, students and children and are available at the Fine Arts Center Box Office.
