ROCHESTER — Hunter Charles Emerson, age 86 of Essex, Vt., was found deceased in the woods by a K-9 early Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, according to a state police press release submitted at 1 a.m. No foul play is suspected.
On Nov. 16, at approximately 6:29 p.m., Vermont State Police in Royalton were notified of an overdue deer hunter in Rochester, Vt. Emerson was said to be hunting alone along Bingo Road in Rochester, Vt., and was described as 5’10” tall, 150 pounds, with blue eyes and grey hair. Emerson does not hear well and can become confused, the caller told police.
Emerson went into the woods at approximately 9:30-10 a.m. Monday morning but never returned to his hunting camp on Bingo Road in the afternoon as expected. Emerson’s vehicle was located on Bingo Road in the area he was going to be hunting soon after officers arrived. Several organizations have responded to conduct searches through the night for Emerson. State Police were assisted by New England K-9, Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, Rochester Fire Department, and the US Forest Police.
