Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. — PAWLET — The Pawlett Historical Society is pleased to host Dick Smith on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Pawlet Town Hall, located at 122 School Street in Pawlet.
Smith will be talking about Ethan Allen and how his expedition to capture Fort Ticonderoga for America’s First Victory went through Pawlet in 1775. Some members of that expedition had ties to Pawlet. The role of Pawlet in Burgoyne’s 1777 march south from Canada and ultimate defeat at Saratoga will be discussed.
Dick Smith graduated from Lehigh University and received an advanced degree from Columbia University. He is a former president of the Manchester Historical Society and is now a trustee of the Vermont Historical Society. Smith hosts a history program on public television, GNAT-TV, in Sunderland. He resides in Manchester, Vt. with his wife, Sharon.
