Sunday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. — On Sunday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m., the Vermont Opera Project (TVOP) presents “An Afternoon of American Song.” The program includes songs by American composers Irving Fine, Andre Previn, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and Gabriel Kahane as well as a preview of TVOP’s upcoming production of Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice – slated for summer 2016. “An Afternoon of American Song” will feature Vermont native, soprano Suzanne Kantorski, baritone Darik Knutsen, clarinetist Wesley Christensen, and pianist, director of piano studies, history and theory at Castleton College, Charles Madsen.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about the performers for this first TVOP concert,” said Quincy Bruckerhoff, TVOP’s General Director. “We want this performance to be our introduction to Rutland, and we hope to get everyone excited about having an opera company here.”
Soprano and Vermont native Suzanne Kantorski’s voice has been called “riveting in its lyrical beauty and deep expressiveness,” by the Times Argus. In 2014, Ms. Kantorski recorded the internationally acclaimed Operatic Tableaux “Oh My Son” by Spanish Composer Marcos Galvany. She was also a featured soloist on this work at Disney Hall in Los Angeles as well as in Spain; and has sung Tatiana in “Eugene Onegin” and Leila in “The Pearl Fishers” for the Opera Company of Middlebury. She will sing Eurdice in TVOP’s inaugural production of “Orpheus and Euridice” in August, 2016.
The concert takes place in Tuttle Theater at the College of St. Joseph, with a reception to follow. Tickets are a suggested $10 donation and are available in advance at VTOperaProject.com.
