LOGAN BROYLES
MENDON – 14-year-old Logan Broyles doesn’t leave much time for relaxing during his summer vacation. The Rutland High School freshman competed in a dozen golf tournaments, journeying to Quebec, Canada; North Carolina, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and his home state of Vermont for top junior and adult events.
The Mendon teenager capped his 8th grade June graduation from Barstow Memorial School by delivering his commencement address titled, “Making Your Next Shot Your Best.” Broyles followed through on his words with a win at the Vermont Junior Match Play Championship and repeated as the Men’s Club Champion at Killington’s Green Mountain National Golf Club and won the regional Granite State Championship hosted by The Challenge Cup. Broyles capped off September by winning the Vermont Men’s Champion of Champions event held for the top club performers at the challenging Country Club of Vermont.
“I love to compete and practice, I’m very lucky to have parents who have driven me a million miles and a sister who puts up with all this golf,” said Broyles. “After a rainy start to the summer, conditions have been ideal for playing, the courses are in great shape.”
Broyles placed 6th in a field of 145 players at the U.S. Kids Teen World Championships in Pinehurst, N.C., in July and represented Vermont in the national Drive, Chip & Putt competition. The Vermont Golf Association chose Logan Broyles as the youngest participant on its Vermont Junior Team, which competed in the New England Junior Amateur Invitational held in Maine. Broyles’ plans include more tournaments in New York and Massachusetts before the onset of winter.
