KILLINGTON — On Sunday, Sept. 27, 120 runners and walkers competed in the annual Bootcampers for Breast Cancer 5K on River Road in Killington.
“We had a lot more families from the school communities participate this year,” said Danyelle Joaquin, event organizer, adding that the town recreation department offered to take on the kids activities this year and provided a parachute, hula-hoops, and many other fun games.
In total, they raised about $10,760 for the Rutland division of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
“That’s about $2,500 more than we raised last year,” Joaquin explained citing new sponsorships and private donations. “We were very pleased!”
The afterparty pig roast was held at Charities where local musicians including Rick Reddington and Duane Carleton, who reunited after many years much to the delight of local fans!
That same day there was a Breast Cancer 4K walk fundraiser for Making Strides in Castleton. That event raised about $30,000 the American Cancer Society reported.
“Kevin O’Hara, one of the event organizers in Castleton came up to our event after his was done in Castleton,” said Joaquin. “He must have had a very long day already, but it was very special that he came all the way up to support us, too.”
