THREE MEN AND A TENOR
Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. — RANDOLPH — The singing comedy quartet Three Men and a Tenor brings its musical hilarity to the Chandler main stage on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Which one is the tenor, you ask? If you were to ask the bass man Paul Felch, he would tell you that a tenor is “a man who sings like a girl.” But in this group, Glenn Williams, who measures in at 5-feet tall, stands next to Felch (6-feet, 4-inches), Chuck Colby (6-feet 3-inches), and Mark Stiles (6-feet, 5-inches) and still manages to command the stage with the others to help form one of the most energetic and talented professional a cappella vocal groups in America.
The a cappella group has been enjoyed by millions thanks to their Emmy Award-winning PBS television special, filmed at one of their sold-out performances. Three Men and a Tenor now bring to Chandler their freewheeling, family-friendly show that combines perfectly polished harmonies with wacky humor and an irresistible invitation to audiences: “Join in, let go and have a blast!”
The name of the group has often seemed misleading because of the word tenor. Many popular tenor acts are seen on PBS-television, singing opera or jazz or classical music while standing behind music stands and wearing tuxes. By contrast, Three Men and a Tenor performs high-energy pop a cappella vocal music from the Temptations, the Eagles, the Beatles, Grand Funk Railroad, Nat King Cole, Garth Brooks, Bob Marley, Elvis, and Paul Simon. They powerfully present the best of the American songbook (including some of their own catchy original songs) with playful and soulful performances for all ages.
Great pop vocal music, quick-witted humor and overall likability give Three Men and a Tenor a unique style of engaging performance. The group has performed with Jay Leno, The Beach Boys, Lee Greenwood, Chuck Berry, and Dionne Warwick, and were featured in a national PBS-TV special that aired on stations in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Boston, Miami, Las Vegas, and Nashville. They toured twice in Germany to entertain the troops and families at over 15 different U.S. military bases and sang at the bedsides of wounded soldiers just arrived from the front lines of battle in Iraq and Afghanistan. With 4 CDs, a DVD concert special, and over 2500 performances in the group’s 23-year history, Three Men and a Tenor have twice been voted “The Best Entertainment in Michigan.”
