Monday, Oct. 5 — RUTLAND — Let’s Grow Kids invites area business people to attend a special breakfast Monday, Oct. 5 from 8-9:30 a.m. at Rutland Regional Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 50 Merchants Row in Rutland.
Let’s Grow Kids is a statewide public education campaign that aims to raise understanding of the importance of the earliest years in the lives of Vermont’s children. The breakfast is part of a series of “Early Edge” events being held with businesspeople around the state.
“We hope business leaders will take this opportunity to join the statewide conversation about issues that impact not only today’s workforce—as many working parents struggle to find affordable, quality child care—but also the future of Vermont’s children,” said Robyn Freedner-Maguire, Let’s Grow Kids campaign director.
The event is also an opportunity to learn about the work of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Financing Affordable, High Quality Child Care—a new state commission formed by legislation passed this year that is expected to shine a light on issues around early childhood and Vermont’s serious shortage of affordable, high-quality child care. The commission, which held its first meeting Sept. 2, is charged with reviewing all current sources of public financing for early childhood programming in Vermont and making recommendations to the legislature for:
How Vermont can ensure that we are providing high quality child care; and
How Vermont can make it affordable for all families, including investigating potential public and private funding revenues, both traditional and innovative.
Let’s Grow Kids wants to make sure that the local business community is connected to these conversations and to the issue more broadly.
