Oct. 3-4 — In Honor of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, several area churches are offering annual blessings of the animals.
Join the Rutland County Humane Society and Reverend Muller of Trinity Church in Rutland for their Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2 to 4 p.m. Bring your pet, or a picture of your pet, for a special blessing by Reverend Muller. All dogs must be leashed, and cats and other pets must be in secure carriers. The ceremony will be held outside on the Humane Society lawn, and all are welcome.
Church of Our Saviour, Mission Farm Road, Killington, will hold its annual animal blessing on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring their companion animal(s) for a blessing. Please have dogs on a leash and cats/ferrets/small animals in a carrier. If your cat is shy, you can bring a photograph and have it blessed as a proxy. Community members are encouraged to bring their pets and animals for a special blessing at this year’s final outdoor worship service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1 Hillside Road, Rutland. The service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 on the church lawn. All animals should be on a leash or harness or in an appropriate carrier. Participants are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Ceremony will be held indoors if it rains.
