Nelson Duncan IV
ROYALTON—On Saturday, Sept. 19 at 3:15 p.m., Vermont State Police in Royalton were advised of a vehicle that was speeding, then stopped abruptly to let an adult male run from the vehicle at mile marker 21, on Interstate 89N, in Royalton, Vt.
While troopers were en-route, the suspect vehicle (a gold minivan) had caught fire and was fully engulfed. When troopers arrived, they were unable to locate the man in the immediate area of the car fire.
Another caller reported that a man who they believed fled the scene was running towards Gilman Road in Royalton. Troopers immediately responded to the area and located the man, identified as Nelson Duncan IV, age 33 from Royalton.
During the investigation, it was determined the vehicle burning on the Interstate had been stolen from Wethersfield, Conn., earlier that morning. A bag that Duncan had discarded was also located partially hidden on Gilman Road.
Duncan was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property (the vehicle), driving on a criminally suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, giving false information to a police officer and violation of active conditions of release.
Duncan was processed and released with conditions of release and was scheduled to appear in Windsor County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Sept. 22.
The investigation is ongoing.
