Driver crashes into car dealership on Route 7

Thick fog thought to be a factor

RUTLAND—On Friday, Sept. 18, at about 3:30 a.m., the Vermont State Police, the Rutland Town Fire Department and Regional Ambulance Service were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover crash with entrapment at 1253 Route 7 North in Rutland Town.

With assistance from first-responders, the operator, identified as Christopher M. Martin, age 45 of Springfield, Mass., was able to get out of the overturned vehicle. He was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center for a minor head injury, possible chest/abdomen injuries, minor cuts and scrapes, police reported. He had not been wearing his seat belt.

Investigation revealed that Martin was traveling south on Route 7 when he encountered heavy fog on the road and failed to negotiate a curve. His vehicle, a 2014 Honda CRV, left the west side of the highway, traveled down an embankment, through a field and up another embankment before striking two unoccupied 2016 Jeep Cherokees in the parking lot of Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep car dealership. Martin’s car finally came to rest on its left side. The Jeeps sustained significant contact damage to their rear ends.

It does not appear that speed nor alcohol/drugs were contributing factors in this crash.
