CHITTENDEN — On Monday, Sept. 14, between 11 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. fly fishing equipment was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Leffert’s Pond Access area located off Wildcat Road in the Town of Chittenden, Vt. The equipment belongs to Patrick Norton, age 51 of Rutland, who reported it missing. All of the equipment was locked in a vehicle parked at the access area.
Equipment included a 9-foot brown 3-peice Cortland Fly Rod, Cortland large Arbor fly reel precision cc, Orvis large Arbor reel, Orvis Batten kill reel, Orvis DXR7/8 fly fishing reel, Echo fly rod 7’10” glass, Airflo intermediate 7-weight fly line, Orvis WF5F line, Orvis WF4F line, Orvis sink tip line, Patagonia Sweet package vest, line snipper, fly boxes, freshwater trout flies, salt water flies, 3x-7x tippets Orvis super strong, Orvis mirage tippets 4x&5x.

The Vermont State Police have taken numerous complaints regarding thefts from vehicles in this area as of late, which has resulted in increased area patrols. Police are asking that anyone who observes any suspicious persons or vehicles parked in these areas to contact the state police with information as soon as possible. If it is safe to do so, please provide vehicle descriptions (make, model) license plates, and any distinguishing features (bumper stickers, unique damage, etc…).
General suggestions for preventing car breaks:
1. Lock your doors.
2. Conceal property – don’t leave any items out in plain sight that will be tempting to thieves. A better suggestions is to not bring it with you.
3. Stash items before you pull into a parking area. Thieves may be watching you prepare to leave your car and observe where you put high value items.
4. Obtain or activate your car alarm.
5. Park in a high visibility area if possible.
