RUTLAND—Environmental Services and Housekeeping (EVS) Week recognizes the contributions of healthcare environmental services and housekeeping’s role in infection control, cleaning protocols, patient safety goals and overall patient satisfaction.

Environmental services staff play an essential role. Not only do they keep the facility clean, they keep patients, visitors and staff safe by ensuring that high disinfection and cleaning standards are met.

There are more than 46 EVS associates working around the clock at RRMC in a variety of roles including: linen, floor care, housekeeping and the operating room team, servicing over 300,000 square feet of hospital.

According to Brian Olsen, manager of environmental services, all are committed to maintaining a clean environment, but also view their role as one of customer service. “We focus on putting the patient first,” said Olsen. “Our team continually works to make Rutland Regional an even better place for employees to work, physicians to practice medicine and patients to receive great care.”

“We all depend on the critical and often unrecognized role of environmental services in quality outcomes;” said Mary Nemeth, vice president of corporate support services. “We appreciate and recognize all the professionals working in healthcare environmental services for the extraordinary teamwork and leadership required to care for the complex healthcare environment.”
