Saturday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. — MENDON — On Saturday, Sept. 12, Sugar & Spice Restaurant and Emma’s Ladybugs will be hosting the 10th annual Family Fun Day to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a spaghetti dinner, live entertainment, raffles, silent auction, craft tables, and new this year wind-up pig races. All proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In 2002 the average life expectancy of CF was the early 30’s. On Jan. 31, 2012 Vertex Pharmaceuticals was approved to release Kalydeco., a new medication which corrects the defective gene. Unfortunately, Kalydeco only works for about 4 percent of the CF population. However, another drug, Orkambi, was just approved and it corrects the defective gene that about 80 percent of the CF population carries. These new medications have the potential to turn what was a fatal disease into a manageable disease.
All proceeds from these activities will be going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help in the research of these new and other ground breaking and life changing medications and therapies.
