Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. — RANDOLPH — Just in time, while the presidential nominating process heats up, the famed and hilarious political satire group Capitol Steps swings by Chandler for an evening of political merriment on Friday evening, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. By digging into the headlines of the day, they created song parodies and skits that conveyed a special brand of satirical humor. For more than 25 years, the Capitol Steps have recorded dozens of albums and appeared on “Good Morning America,” the “Today Show,” “20/20,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “Nightline,” CNN’s “Inside Politics,” and dozens of times on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.”
Most cast members have worked on Capitol Hill- some for Democrats, some for Republicans, and others for politicians who firmly straddle the fence. No matter who holds office, there’s never a shortage of material. Says Capitol Steps co-founder Elaina Newport, “Typically the Republicans goof up, and the Democrats party. Then the Democrats goof up and the Republicans party. That’s what we call the two-party system.”
The material is updated constantly. No matter who or what is in the headlines, you can bet the Capitol Steps will tackle both sides of the political spectrum and all things equally foolish.
Tickets for this performance are available through the Chandler Music Hall box office at 802-728-6464 weekdays between 3 and 6 p.m. and online at www.chandler-arts.org. Chandler Music Hall is fully accessible and equipped for the hearing impaired, located at 71-73 Main Street, Randolph.
