Income tax trainings to be held in Essex and Killington

A two-day tax “school” is planned for two locations in November to update tax practitioners, accountants and other tax professionals on new tax legislation, regulations and rulings.

The dates for the 2015 University of Vermont (UVM) Extension Income Tax Schools are Nov. 10-11 at the Champlain Valley Exposition, Essex Junction, and Nov. 17-18 at the Killington Grand Resort Conference Center, Killington. An optional session on estate planning will be offered on the afternoon prior to each tax school.

Participants will learn about new state and federal legislation, Affordable Care Act tax implications, tax provisions limited by income, repair and capitalization regulations, tax accounting methods and issues relating to tax preparation for clients who operate a business. Sessions also will cover, among other topics, tax matters for agricultural and natural resources enterprises and recent Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rulings and court cases, along with IRS issues in regards to tax preparation.

The annual tax schools are coordinated by UVM Extension in cooperation with the IRS (Vermont District), the Vermont Department of Taxes and the Vermont Tax Practitioners Association.

An optional session, “What Your Clients Should Know about Estate and Gift Tax Planning,” will be offered. Presenters will be Molly Bucci and C. Kirk Clarke, attorneys with Clarke Demas and Baker in Burlington. In addition, a bonus session on ethical tax situations and practices will be held at the conclusion of the first day. It will be led by a panel of Vermont tax practitioners.

Registration is $319 if received by Sept. 20 or $359 by Nov. 1, and includes all materials and lunch on both days. A $100 fee will be added for late registrations. Additional sessions cost extra. Registration information can be found at www.uvm.edu/extension/taxschool.
