Fall programming briefs from the Rutland Rec. & Parks Dept.   

Intergrative yoga

Instructor Stephanie Jones will lead participants through this gentle to moderate class. Beginners will gain experience that is challenging but safe and experienced students will learn how to work at a deeper level to develop a more personal practice. Each class will include postures, breathing exercises and relaxation as well as other yogic techniques. Class will be held in the fitness room at the Rutland Recreation Department at 16 North Street Extension and will run on Wednesdays starting Sept. 9 through Oct. 28 at 5-6:15 p.m. or 6:30-7:45 p.m.. Cost is $46 for city residents and $57 for non-residents. Participants will need to bring a towel or a mat.

Self defense for women

Rutland Recreation Department offers a R.A.D Self Defense Class for young women and girls ages 12 and older. This program includes training in awareness, prevention, risk reduction, avoidance and basic hands-on defense. Participants are asked to wear loose, comfortable clothes and bring water and snacks. Class runs Tuesdays and Thursdays Sept. 15–24. Cost is $35 for city residents and $46 for non-residents.

Art classes for kids

Hands On Minds On Art Studio is offering a variety of fun art programs this fall starting Friday, Sept. 11. Just for 2’s Studio for ages 2 – 3; Independent Art Start for ages 2 ½ – 3 ½, Pre-school programs for Ages 3 ½ – 5; After-School Art for grades K-3, Imagination Station for ages 4 and up, plus programs for homeschoolers.

Flip Side Skate Park is still open

New school hours are Wednesday – Friday, 3-7 p.m., Saturdays 1-8 p.m. and Sundays from 1-6 p.m. Park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. General admission is $10 for Rutland City residents and $12 for non-residents. Punch passes are available.

Field Hockey program for grades K-6

On Wednesday evenings from 5-6:15 p.m. at the Rutland High School starting Sept. 9 – Oct. 21, field hockey will be offered to students grades K-6. This program is open to beginners to the experienced player, each session participants will learn dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting and much more. Each session will finish game play to put those skills into action. Two games for grades 3-6 will be scheduled with other towns for Sept. 19 and Oct. 10. Participants need a stick, shin guards and a mouth guard for this program. Each player will receive a reversible pinney. Cost is $32 for Rutland City Residents and $43 for non-residents. A $10 late fee will apply after August 31.

High School Mountain Bike Team offered

Riders in grades 7-12 will be competing in the Lakes Region High School Mountain Bike Series. Lake Region races are on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. and athletes would need to leave school early as some races are 2 ½ – 3 hours away.  If you don’t want to miss school but still be on the team, you can do that too! Join us for practices and home races. Team is open to athletes in grades 7-12 and from any towns. Start date is Sept. 7 and the program runs through Oct. 21 at Giorgetti/Pine Hill Park. The cost is $93 for city residents and $104 for non-residents. Fee includes transportation for athlete and bike to out of town races.
