RUTLAND—The College of St. Joseph’s returning students filled the campus Sunday, Aug. 16, in time for classes, which began Monday.

The College is enjoying a continued period of growth, with the dorms again filled to capacity with 75 new members of the undergraduate community. License plates from Rhode Island, Texas, and Tennessee reflected the geographic diversity of the College’s community. The incoming class includes students from nine states and Washington D.C.

Residence Life staff–including student advisers dressed in blue CSJ shirts–covered the college, greeting each new arrival.

College of St. Joseph President Dr. Richard Lloyd said in his welcoming address to new students, “This is a new journey, and the journey begins now. There is a change taking foot right now.”

He stressed the importance of learning and of being thankful. “We want you to be intellectually curious. It’s a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of an environment we can learn in,” he said.

All first-year students in the College’s hallmark Provider Scholarship Program completed the first of their 15 required hours of community service over their first weekend.

To date, students in the Provider Scholarship Program have completed more than 7,000 hours of service since the program’s inception in 2013.
