Later this month Upper Valley Aquatic Club (UVAC) swimmer Hannah Cox and UVAC Head Coach Dorsi Raynolds will represent the USA at World Junior Championships.
Hartland’s Hannah Cox is headed to the FINA World Junior Championships and Dorsi Raynolds has been selected from a pool as an assistant coach for the U.S. team.
Cox and Raynolds accepted an invitation from USA Swimming and will join the national junior team at Worlds, Aug. 25-30 in Singapore. The invitation came as a result of Cox’s performances at the recent USA Swimming National Championships in San Antonio.
The 17-year-old Kimball Union Academy senior is scheduled to compete in three events, the 200- and 400-meter freestyle as well as a leg in the 800-meter freestyle relay. Cox placed fifth at nationals in the 200, her specialty, posting a personal-best time of 1 minute, 59.29 seconds. That result came a day after Cox clocked 4:09.61 in the 400 free, busting her previous best by more than 6 seconds.
UVAC coach Dorsi Raynolds will accompany Cox to Singapore. Head coach and competitive aquatic director of the UVAC team program, Raynolds will act as an assistant to U.S. head women’s coach Chuck Batchelor at the junior world championships.
Cox is one of six girls of the 22 chosen for Worlds to be selected for two individual events. She is the only girl on the U.S. roster who will compete in two individual freestyle races.
