Rivard sisters become the youngest to finish long-distance swim events

It was another amazing week for long distance Upper Valley Aquatic Center (UVAC) swimmers Vera and Margaret Rivard.

Last week, 11-year-old Vera Rivard did three swim events at Swim the Kingdom in Vermont. She swam the 5-mile swim on Aug. 9 in Crystal Lake in Barton, Vt. and finished in 2 hour 23 minutes and placed 7th overall. Then on Saturday, Aug. 15 she did the 5-mile event at Lake Willoughby in Westmore, Vt., and finished in 2 hours 24 minute and 18 seconds, finishing 8th overall. Finally, Sunday, Aug. 16, she did the 3-mile swim at Caspian Lake in Greensboro, Vt. where she got a time of 1 hour 22 minutes 32 seconds. She placed third overall and was the first female finisher.

Margaret Rivard, who is 8 years old, also had a great swim on Sunday. She did her longest event ever finishing the 3-mile swim at Caspian Lake in 1 hour 52 minutes 24 seconds.

According to the race organizer, each girl now holds a record. Margaret is now the youngest swimmer ever to complete the 3-mile Caspian Lake Swim, at age 8 (an honor formally owned by her sister) and Vera is officially the youngest recorded person ever to try and complete the 5-mile swim at Lake Willoughby, at age 11!
