Inaugural Open Farm Week opens doors to nearly 100 farms

Vermont’s Open Farm Week ended Sunday, Aug. 9 after a week of mostly sunny skies and a break from the heat with temperatures in the 70s. Participants were invited to sample foods and drinks like wine, cider, fruits and cheese; enjoy live music; learn about mushroom cultivation; participate in a fermenting workshop, tour operations, or attend an on-farm or farm-to-table dinner, among many other activities and events at nearly 100 farms across the state.

Vermont Open Farm Week, Aug. 3-9, was created after the success of NOFA-VT’s 2014 Open CSA Farm Day. Several organizations from around the state came together to produce this year’s event.

“Our goal is to strengthen consumers’ connections to Vermont land and farms, while teaching them how to access Vermont-grown food, fiber and forestry products,” organizers stated on diginvt.com, the event website. “We envision Open Farm Week as an annual event that invites both Vermonters and vacationers to build relationships with our farmers and deepen interest in Vermont’s amazing working landscape.”
