First annual Race to the Peak set for Saturday, Aug. 15

100 on 100 also on Saturday

KILLINGTON — Killington’s 2015 summer calendar has a new competitive event to challenge the region’s uphill climbers. The first-ever Race to the Peak will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15 and is slated to be an annual event. The course, a 5K run/walk ascends to Vermont’s second highest peak. The event starts at the Snowshed Adventure Center at 11 a.m., traverses up the mountain and finishes at Killington’s Peak Lodge. Race to the Peak is a joint venture between Killington Boot Camp, the Town of Killington and Killington Resort.

“Killington is a great setting for this event,” says Beth Roberts, owner of Killington Boot Camp.  “The combination of challenging terrain and stunning scenery will make this a memorable race.”

Registration for the 5K is $35 in advance, $45 day of the event. The top three male and female finishers will receive prizes and the winners’ names will be engraved on the Race to the Peak trophy, which will be on display year-round at Killington’s Peak Lodge.

The event will culminate with a post-race party and awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m., held in conjunction with the Cooler in the Mountains Concert Series, featuring rising country music star John King.

100 on 100

The 100 on 100 is a 100-mile team running relay race from Stowe to Okemo along Route 100. Runners will pass through rolling hills in Waitsfield, Warren and Rochester before re-entering the mountains in Killington. The course includes a slight detour up Killington Road then over and down East Mountain Road to the Skyeship Gondola. Registration for the event it closed.
