LUDLOW–Okemo Mountain Resort Owners Tim and Diane Mueller are pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s annual scholarship awards. Ten scholarships were awarded to students who have worked at Okemo or who are the dependents of Okemo employees. Criteria used to select the scholarship recipients included academic achievement, co-curricular involvement and the composition of an essay.
Okemo Mountain Resort employee scholarships
Timothy Heffernan, a busser at Epic from East Wallingford, Vt., will be attending the University of Vermont.
Kian Hutt Vater, a rental shop technician from Shrewsbury, Vt., will be studying biology at Connecticut College.
Michael Kollman, a cook at the Roundhouse from Springfield, Vt., will be studying business entrepreneurship and management at Wake Forest University.
Alecia Rokes, a cashier at the Summit cafeteria from Andover, Vt., is studying biochemistry at Lehigh University.
Employee dependent student scholarships
Morgan Kathan of Ludlow, Vt., the daughter of Christine Creaser Kathan, who works at the Jackson Gore Inn, is studying physical education at Keene State College.
Nicole Shea of Glastonbury, Conn., the daughter of Allen Shea, who works in Mountain Operations, is studying nursing at Castleton University.
Matthew Winters of Stamford, Conn., the son of Leigh Shemitz, who works in Racing, is studying astrophysics at Colgate University.
Caroline Zee of Westfield, N.J., the daughter of Yuan Zee, who works in Ski + Ride School, is majoring in Hispanic studies at Davidson College.
Memorial scholarships
Kateri Collins, a rental shop technician from Mount Holly, Vt., is the recipient of the John F. Mueller Scholarship. Formed by the Okemo Mountain Resort staff in memory of Dr. Mueller, this award is presented to a student, employed by Okemo or Mount Sunapee Resort, who is pursuing a career in medicine. Collins is attending Stonehill College and studying psychology.
Jediah Plumley, a Snowstars instructor from Langdon, N.H., is the recipient of the Thomas Croney Scholarship, given by the employees of Okemo Mountain in memory of Tom Croney, an Okemo employee who set an example for all through his dedication to Okemo and its guests. This scholarship is awarded to a student perusing a technical education. Plumley is studying photojournalism at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
