Friday, Aug. 7 — Granville, N.Y. — The Slate Valley Museum welcomes families with youth in grades K-12 to unleash their inner artist and create their own chalk drawings in a friendly art competition. During the week of Aug. 1-7, youth are invited to make chalk art on their sidewalks or driveways, take photos of their work, and submit their work to the museum. A panel of jurors will select winning artworks in three age groups, each of which will win prizes.
The museum will also host a celebration of Chalk Art Week Festival on Friday, Aug. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Activities will include chalk drawing on slate, hopscotch, and tic-tac-toe, as well as ice chalk and chalk bomb art, and other art-related activities. Activities will be held outside on the cultural campus surrounding the museum. The first 50 kids through the door will receive a free ice cream cone from Stewarts Shops and a rainbow box of chalk from TD Bank.
“Drawing with chalk is something that most children enjoy doing. It’s something that most of us can relate to,” notes Executive Director, Krista Rupe. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for youth to create art, too.”
Participants can email photos of their chalk art to the museum at mail@slatevalleymuseum.org or they can share their work on the museum’s Facebook page through Friday, Aug. 7. Participation in the competition is free.
