ALISSA JOHANNSEN RUBIN
Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. — SHREWSBURY — Alissa Johannsen Rubin, New York Times Paris Bureau chief and Spring Lake Ranch trustee, will be speaking at the Shrewsbury Meeting House on Thursday, Aug. 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Rubin, who joined the New York Times in 2007, will explore the question of “Where Did ISIS Come From? A Look at the Origins of a Deadly Terrorist Organization” in this one-night special event.
Prior to her current position at the Times, Rubin was the Baghdad Bureau correspondent and later became the Baghdad Bureau chief before spending four years as the Afghanistan Bureau chief. She has been the recipient of numerous journalism awards including the 2009 Overseas Press Club’s Ed Cunningham Award for best magazine reporting for “How Baida Wanted to Die.”
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Alissa to Vermont to speak on this difficult but significant topic for our time. Alissa’s experience as a journalist on the front lines and her depth of understanding of the complexity of these issues will help us to better understand ISIS and the force it represents in the world,” said Lynn Pilcher, executive director of Spring Lake Ranch Therapeutic Community.
