Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. — GRANVILLE, N.Y. —The Slate Valley Museum (SVM) has teamed up with Hubbard Hall Opera Theater of Glens Falls) to bring Italian opera to the museum on Friday, July 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. The crowd will hear music from the Italian repertoire spanning Baroque to modern.
“We are quite thrilled to be hosting a night of music,” said Executive Director Krista Rupe, “We’re hoping the community will come out to enjoy an evening of opera with us.”
Granville is no stranger to opera: first, Bardwell Hall opened in the 1870s. Later, Franklin Tanner Pember opened the Pember Opera Hall at the turn of the last century at Church and East Main Street, where it stood until the 1970s. The Granville opera scene was so well respected that in the mid-30s people took trains from New York and Vermont to attend opera performances.
SVM board president Molly Biggs-Celani said, “After all this time away, we’re glad to bring opera back to a stage in Granville.”
The ensemble is composed of soprano Meghan Picerno, violinist Alyson Slack, and cellist Brian Donat, all of whom have received international acclaim.
All ages are welcome to come to the opera. Tickets are $10 per person. Children must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Reservations are required.
The Slate Valley Museum is located at 17 Water Street, Granville, NY. For more info, visit www.slatevalleymuseum.org or call 518-642-1417.
