HELIAND TRIO
Sunday, July 26 at 4 p.m. — ROCHESTER — The Rochester Chamber Music Society presents soprano Mary Bonhag with the Heliand Trio in Rochester, on Sunday, July 26 at 4 p.m. in the Rochester Federated Church. The program features lyrical songs by Schubert, including his iconic “Shepherd on the Rock” trio, a piano trio by Mendelssohn, a jazzy bassoon sonata by Hyekyung Lee, and the world premiere of “Smiling Moon” for soprano, clarinet, bassoon and piano by internationally renowned Australian composer Padma Newsome.
The Heliand Trio is comprised of clarinetist Elisabeth LeBlanc, bassoonist Rachael Elliott, and pianist Cynthia Huard. Formed in 2006, their instrumentation creates a warm-sounding acoustic, with the mellifluous lower woodwinds complemented by the dynamism of the piano. Together, the three musicians bring spirited interpretations of classical and modern music to audiences in Vermont and beyond.
Mary Bonhag made her Carnegie Hall solo debut in 2009 singing scenes from David T. Little’s new chamber opera Dog Days, and in 2007 she created the role of Eve for the Pine Mountain Music Festival premiere of “The Diaries of Adam and Eve,” a new chamber opera by Evan Premo. Bonhag has performed as part of the Fontana Chamber Arts Festival of Kalamazoo, the Maui Classical Music Festival, Strings in the Mountains among others. She has also been featured on the NPR shows “Performance Today” and “From the Top.” She lives in the woods of Vermont where she runs Scrag Mountain Music, an innovative concert series, with her husband, double bassist and composer Evan Premo.
