Thursday, July 16 at 8 p.m. — HUBBARDTON — It’s time to gaze at the stars. On Thursday, July 16 from 8 p.m. (or dusk) to 1 a.m. at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton, the Green Mountain Alliance of Amateur Astronomers members will share their telescopes to show you the magic of the stars, planets, and maybe even Comet PanSTARRS. This comet was discovered in 2014. Bring binoculars, blankets, and flashlights, if you like. They provide the marshmallows. In the case of inclement weather, there will be an inside illustrated program. Call 802-273-2282 to confirm.
The Hubbardton Battlefield, with sweeping mountain views and no modern light pollution, is the perfect spot to observe the night sky. The program is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated. The Green Mountain Alliance of Amateur Astronomers is offering a drawing toward a telescope you can win. Get tickets at this or another Hubbardton astronomy program (Aug. 18 and Sept. 27); the drawing will be on Sept. 27.
The battlefield is located in Hubbardton on Monument Hill Road, seven miles north of US Route 4 from Castleton or six miles east of VT Route 30 in Hubbardton.
