Hockey team for the blind and visually impaired seeks players

Courage USA Player Brad Mullin displays differences between traditional hockey puck and adaptive one.

Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) seeks individuals across Vermont to be part of an exciting opportunity in the world of sports: a hockey team for blind and visually impaired Vermonters and New Yorkers!

Courage USA Ice Hockey for the Blind is a non-profit organization empowering blind and visually impaired Vermonters and New Yorkers ages 14 and up to practice hockey and play competitively against fellow visually impaired teams. The rules are the same as in traditional ice hockey except that there is no checking allowed and they play with an adaptive puck. This puck is larger than the one used in standard hockey, is metal and hollow, and has ball bearings inside so players can hear it as it travels down the ice.

Interested in playing? Contact Brad Mullin at courageusahockey@gmail.com. You can attend a practice if you’re unsure of your interest. Donated equipment is available for potential players to borrow thanks to the generosity of local teams. For more information visit www.courageusa.org.
