July 11 and 12 — RUTLAND — The Rutland Area Vehicle Enthusiasts (R.A.V.E.) invite everyone to attend the 36th Anniversary Car Show and Flea Market on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 at the Vermont State Fairgrounds in Rutland. As a result of tremendous community support, exhibitors, sponsors, trophy sponsors and member support of the Rutland Area Vehicle Enthusiasts’ Annual Car Show and Flea Market, R.A.V.E. will be making donations from last year’s show to several area non-profit charities on Sunday, July 12 at 1 p.m.
This year’s show is dedicated to the memory of two long time club members who passed away last year, Jimm Steele and John Krupp.
Friday night, July 10, is R.A.V.E. night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven. Check out a sampling of the club’s vehicles and enjoy a great night of racing. There will be a chance to win passes to the show and movie night! Grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with practice starting, followed by the races starting promptly at 7:30 p.m.
There are many events planned for this year’s show, including the car corral, an assortment of flea market vendors, retail vendors, a large assortment of handcraft vendors, food vendors, music, door prizes provided by many local businesses, live radio remote provided by 94.5 the Drive, coloring contest for all ages, spark plug changing, piston toss and a modified race car! NSRA safety inspectors will be there throughout the weekend to do a safety inspection of your vehicle. There will be a car cruise that leaves the Fairgrounds Saturday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m., taking participants on a scenic tour of the area.
The 50/50 raffle that will take place at the show will benefit the WSYB Christmas Fund. There will be one drawing on Sunday afternoon, with tickets being sold all weekend.
New this year, join the Saturday night movie event held at the Paramount Theatre on Center Street in downtown Rutland. A double feature movie showing will start at 5:30 p.m. with “Cars” for the kids, followed by “American Graffitti” at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per adult, 12 and under are free (must be accompanied by an adult), $15 family cap. Come for both or one. Admission benefits the West Rutland Food Shelf. Feel free to bring a non-perishable food item also.
This year’s show is also a Cruisin’ New England Magazine Super Wheels Showdown qualifying event: one vehicle will be chosen to go the showdown in Boston in the fall.
This year’s show will again have the “Top 50” format, with trophies being presentedto the top 50 vehicles in the show along with some specialty awards on Sunday at 3 p.m., with winners driving their vehicles past the grandstand to receive their awards.
Show hours: Saturday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Spectator admission is a $5 donation, under 12 free. Show car registration begins at 7 a.m. each day and the fee is $20 for a car and two adults. Pre-1948 stock vehicles are free.
