Killington Softball League: Playoff implications are on the line

By Dave Hoffenberg

The Killington Deli Team had a big double header last week with playoff implications on the line. First up they battled Slips Trips and Falls (STF) and things were going smooth all game. Two runs in the first by Dan Muller and Craig Brothers, Jus Archer drove in a run in the second, Jimbo Cassineri was part of a three run third, Dave “Loco” Concepcion came up big in the fifth but did suffer a “Cold Beer K” in the sixth but not to worry because Evan “I hit bombs” Anderson put the game away in the sixth with a grand salami.

Their next game they took on arch rivals, Clearly Moguls. These two teams have a long history and faced each other in the finals last year. Moguls is already up 1-0 in the season series so this is for first place. Angel Shannon put Moguls on the board first with a solo homer to give his team a 1-0 lead. Muller answered right back and tied it at 1-1. Tall Tom Gilligan went down swinging for a “CBK” and then CM suffered a 1-2-3 inning.

The Deli team had a big second inning and scored three runs to go up 4-1. CM could not get it going and suffered another 1-2-3 inning. Ronzoni Hacker started heating up and back-to-back “CBKs” to Cam Rainwater and Cassineri. TKDT was able to put one more run up to make it 5-1. CM stormed back in the fourth with three runs to cut the lead 5-4. It was Brett “Freshly Shaved” Regimbald with a big single and Jackie Blue Livesey with a nice looking sac that propelled the team that inning but it was Gilligan with another “CBK.” TKDT stretched their lead back to three runs in the fifth after Archer and Muller scored but Ian “That’s not the” Way went down looking for a costly “CBK.”

Both teams scored in the sixth to hold TKDT’s lead at three. CM put on a hitting clinic in the seventh and came alive when they needed it the most. The bottom of the order shined with Ronzoni and Russell “The Love Muscle” Dalglish each scoring a run along with Jared Hall who hit a big single. Will “The Thrill” Burdick and Shannon also scored to give CM their first lead since the first inning and they liked this lead better because it put them up 10-8 going into the bottom of the seventh. The seventh was “Ronzoni” time as he delivered back-to-back “CBK’s to Waye and Archer who both let it drop on the plate to go down looking. Muller couldn’t start the two out rally and it was a 1-2-3 inning for TKDT and they lost the season series to CM with this 10-8 loss.
