Proctor Water System

Helped to save the town of Proctor $600,000 and brought its water system into compliance with the state regulations

In the annual American Council of Engineering Companies of Vermont (ACEC/VT) Engineering Excellence Awards Program, a showcase of exemplary engineering projects completed in the state, consulting engineers DuBois & King (D&K) received a Grand Award in the Environmental category for a water system improvement project in Proctor, Vt., and a Merit Award in the Studies and Planning category for the Essex Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. ACEC/VT presented the awards at the annual Engineering Excellence Awards banquet held at the ECHO Leahy Center in Burlington on June 11.

D&K provided design and construction services that saved the Town of Proctor $600,000 and brought the Proctor water system into compliance with the state regulations, avoiding potential enforcement action.

Working with the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and the Town and Village of Essex, Vermont, D&K’s transportation planners developed a 20-year bicycle and pedestrian plan. The plan provides a set of maps and a project database that the communities can refer to as opportunities for implementation arise. The plan includes a “toolbox” of design options and other measures that can be worked into projects to result in a more complete multimodal network for the Town and Village. The plan is the first in Vermont to recognize that bicycle networks need to be planned for a broad range of abilities and levels of confidence.

Founded in 1962, DuBois & King is a consulting engineering firm with offices in Randolph, South Burlington, and Springfield, Vermont.
