Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. — BRANDON — Haruka Yabuno and Ehud Ettun first met when they arrived in the U.S. four years ago; they didn’t then have a common language to speak, so music became their first shared language. The piano and bass duo known as the Yabuno Ettun Project are returning to Brandon Music on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. for their third performance. After their debut concert in August 2014, Brandon Music was eager to get them back to share the astounding talent of these two young, accomplished musicians again. Now by popular demand, they return just before they set off on a tour of their home countries.
The duo play original music, as well as Jazz standards, Israeli and Japanese folk music and even Bach, but they explain that the “core of what we do is not the music material itself, but our ability to interact, improvise and communicate using different musical pieces as a point of departure.”
Their musical growth as a duo has taken them, as well as their audiences, above and beyond any cultural, linguistic or geographic differences and barriers. “We are very excited at the prospect of bridging even greater geo-cultural boundaries, by presenting our project in Israel and Japan. Especially, considering how different our home countries and cultures are, it is amazing that music alone is the substance of that bridge. We believe that music can connect everyone else in the world even if they don’t speak the same language.”
