Killington Selectboard meeting briefs from June 16

Citizens input

Susan Maples expressed multiple concerns about flower plantings around town including types of flowers and why a committee was not formed to plan the plantings. Town Manager Seth Webb noted that the town had discussed the project with several qualified vendors and chosen the most affordable contractor who also had a solid track record in Killington and would focus on planting perennials.

Diane Rosenblum expressed her opposition to the concept of the Town working with the Killington Pico Area Association to manage special events and marketing.

General fund and golf expenses

The Board approved the expense and revenue reports for the month of May. The town received the first quarter options tax, which was the second highest to date. The Town also expects to receive reimbursement from FEMA for debris removal from December’s snowstorm in the near future.

Delinquent tax policy

The Board reviewed the town’s delinquent tax policy and discussed ways to strengthen the policy while supporting the goal to reduce delinquencies. Webb will present an updated draft, to include information on tax collection dates, rules, and rights, the tax sale process, and payment plans, at a July meeting for adoption.

Town manager’s report

Webb reported: line striping for Killington Rd., West Hill Rd. and River Rd. is scheduled, but has been held up due to rain, and should be completed in June; the walkway extension construction, which is 80 percent funded by state grants, will be scheduled when the town gets final approvals from the state on plans; the town and planning commission are working on creating crosswalks on Killington Rd. in accordance with all applicable regulations.

Upcoming meeting dates: regular meetings: July 7 and 21; special meeting to set the tax rate: July 1.
