Tuesday, June 23 at 3:30 p.m. — WOODSTOCK — Mindfulness is the silencing of the mind, giving way to the expanding expression of the heart in the all-knowing present moment, as defined by author Lauren Alderfer in her new book, “Teaching from the Heart of Mindfulness.” As His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama writes in the book’s foreword, “Lauren Alderfer explains how it is possible to cultivate warm-heartedness through the practice of mindfulness.”
The author will be coming to Woodstock to give two presentations at the Norman Williams Library on Tuesday, June 23. The first, “Heroes Within Us All” will be at 3:30 p.m. to help kick off the children’s summer program, “Every Hero Has a Story.” There will be follow-up activities for children to discovery their own inner hero and build compassion, empathy, and kindness in themselves and in the world around them.
A second presentation, “From the Heart of Mindfulness,” will be presented at the library on the mezzanine level at 5 p.m. This one-hour program will include a guided mindfulness practice for people of all ages, and includes a short breath awareness practice. People of all ages interested in mindfulness as well as children and their families are encouraged to participate, sharing mindfulness across ages. There will be an author reading, and opportunity for questions and answers. Autographed books used in both presentations will be available for purchase.
