June 13-14 — RUTLAND — It’s back and better than ever! The 39th Annual Crowley Brothers’ Memorial 10K, Vermont State Championship: the best and oldest 10K in New England takes to the roads of Rutland County on June 14. This year, olympian Bill Rodgers returns for his eighth year running, along with “Marathon Woman” Kathrine Switzer.
This year, with the support of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce, there are exciting race weekend events designed for the athletes as well as spectators and visitors. The weekend kicks off on Saturday, June 13 with the 9th Annual Crowley Brothers’ Annual Sport and Fitness Expo at the Holiday Inn at 476 Holiday Dr., Rutland, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday’s events include the Half Marathon, 10K relay, the 8th Annual 5K race and 5K walk, the 5K Corporate Challenge Walk and the 18th Annual Kids’ Downtown Mile Run.
The 18th Annual Kids’ Downtown Mile Run is also slated to be bigger than ever. This event has grown from 50 runners to 350+ in the past few years. Children from the Rutland County schools participate in this event along with young runners from Canada and all other states in New England. This is a fun run for children with the main purpose of promoting healthy hearts and bodies through youth fitness.
The 39th running of the Crowley Brothers’ Memorial 10K Road Race Half Marathon and the 5K race will be held on Sunday, June 14 at 8 a.m. These races are certified half marathon (13.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles), point to point championship courses from Proctor to Rutland.
