Fatal crash on Rte 7 reported, still under investigation

FERRISBURGH—On June 2, at about 8:40 p.m., the New Haven State Police Barracks, along with the Vergennes police department and the Ferrisburgh and Vergennes fire and rescue personnel responded to a report of a single-car crash with injuries at 5371 U.S. Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.

Shortly after first responders arrived, the operator of the vehicle, Dana S. Philips, 55, of Vergennes, was pronounced dead. Passenger Joseph Mischik, 37, of Monkton was transported to UVM Medical Center for minor injuries to his leg, police reported. Both occupants had been wearing seatbelts.

The 2003 Chevy Impala had been traveling northbound on U.S. Route 7 when it went off the road, striking several culverts before coming to rest. This case is still under investigation and no criminal charges are pending.
