WEST RUTLAND — The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center is offering two upcoming summer camps: “The Sky Is Not The Limit” for ages 6-8 and “Props!” for ages 9-12.
“The Sky Is Not The Limit!” is an exploration in art inspired by winged beasts, tales of the air, and space travel. Ages 6-8 are welcomed to “fly” to the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center this summer to discover inhabitants of the sky and beyond. From butterflies to rocket ships to the search for alien life, participants will investigate both the close and the far reaches of the universe. Through theme-based sculptural projects, stories, and daily adventures, participants will simply take off! The camp runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 6-10.
“Props!” is a camp designed for ages 9-12; it’s “sculpture exploration” with a twist! This workshop will provide students with the opportunity to sample many sculptural methods and materials, with the added component of incorporating their projects into a performance at week’s end. Participants will be given the chance to try their hand at stone carving and other traditional sculptural techniques, as well as many non-traditional materials and concepts. Projects will become props, scenery, puppets, costuming, etc. for the performance of the participants’ choosing. Students will be encouraged to fully experience the materials and develop their own sculptural style, while working together to create a cohesive final product. The camp runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 20-24.
Tuition is $160 for each camp. Materials, tools and safety equipment for use in workshop are included in the fee. Space is limited. Pre-register at 802-438-2097 or info@carvingstudio.org.
