Saturday, June 6 — QUECHEE — The Vermont Institute of Natural Science will hold a special event on Saturday, June 6, National Trails Day, to mark the third anniversary of the nature trail system on the VINS campus and to highlight VINS’ award from the Vermont Center for Independent Living (VCIL). VCIL will present to VINS an award honoring their efforts to increase accessibility. The informal presentation will take place after the 11 a.m. live bird program.
One of VINS’ three nature trails, the McKnight Trail, named after co-founder June McKnight, conforms to ADA (American Disabilities Act of 1990) and ABA (Architectural Barriers Act of 1968) standards, so it can accommodate people of all mobility levels, including those using strollers and wheelchairs.
Special activities for the day will include a Scavenger Hunt (tailored for children) on VINS Nature Trails at 10:30 a.m.; a Raptors Up Close program at 111:30 a.m.; the Award Ceremony at 11:30 a.m.; a guided picnic hike to the Quechee Gorge from 11:45 to 1:30 p.m. (please bring your lunch); and a Talk to the Trainer program beginning at 2 p.m. All events are included with price of admission to the Nature Center which is $13.50 for adults; $12.50 for students and for seniors 62 and over; $11.50 for youth ages 4 to 17; and free for members and for children 3 and under.
