Sunday, May 31 — TUNBRIDGE — Grammy award winning record producer Jim Rooney and Nashville Hall of Fame songwriter Pat Alger will share a musical evening along with multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Chris Brashear, long a member of Robin and Linda Williams “Fine Group,” Sunday, May 31, 7:30 p.m., at the Tunbridge Town Hall.
Jim Rooney and Pat Alger cemented their friendship and working relationship in Nashville. Rooney was one of the first producers in Nashville to record Alger’s songs, starting with Nanci Griffith’s “Once In A Very Blue Moon.” That was followed by “Goin’ Gone,” which brought Alger to the attention of Kathy Mattea, who had her first #1 record with “Goin’ Gone.” Rooney and Allen Reynolds had just signed up Alger to their new publishing company, Forerunner Music, and this was the start of an incredible string of #1’s, including “She Came From Ft. Worth” (Kathy Mattea), “Small Town Saturday Night” (Hal Ketchum), “The Thunder Rolls”, “Unanswered Prayers”, “That Summer” and “What She’s Doing Now” (Garth Brooks), and “Like We Never Had A Broken Heart” (Trisha Yearwood).
In the course of the evening Rooney, Alger and Brashear will trade songs and stories which will cover their musical journeys. Rooney and Alger played for many years as part of the Woodstock Mountains Revue. Rooney has produced three albums on Alger and one on Brashear, in addition to countless albums by the likes of Nanci Griffith, John Prine, Iris DeMent, Hal Ketchum, and Tom Paxton. It promises to be a memorable, not-to-be-missed event.
