Trail of the week: Rembrant’s Brush

“Rembrant’s Brush” is a flowing trail at Pine Hill Park in Rutland. It sort of declines in elevation, enabling one to maintain speed with minimal pedaling. This trail suits all abilities, from beginner to expert, and contains small water bars, berms and dips, which allow a biker to “pop” off of the lips and jump the bike. Also, pumping the dips will keep one’s speed up without peddling, sort of like a pump track.

The trail was named after Michael Smith’s dog, who accompanied him while he was building trails. Smith was the originator of the Pine Hill Park trail system, and made a major contributions to this and many other trails.

At the end of my rides, I like to connect “Rembrant’s Brush” to “Sisyphus” to lower “Halfpipe” for an exciting ride back to the parking lot.
